A member of the Princeton faculty since 1973, Professor Gowin has been honored with a Guggenheim fellowship and two NEA fellowships, and received the President's Award for Distinguished Teaching at Princeton University in 1997. His work has been widely exhibited, and was initially made famous by his intimate portraits of his wife and family in his native Virginia. Over the last 20 years, he has expanded the scope of his subjects, depicting the devastation and beauty of Mt. St. Helens, the monuments at Petra, and most recently, aerial scenes of man's impact on the environment.
